AND SO, QUESTIONS THAT SOMETHING YOUR CONSTITUENTS MAY BE ASKING, OR BUSINESS OWNERS WHO MAY OWN PROPERTY, UH, THAT YOU CAN PASS ALONG IN TERMS OF, UH, HELPFUL, UH, TIPS AND, AND INFORMATION AND THINGS OF THAT NATURE. SO FIRST OF ALL, WE'RE IN A REALLY INTERESTING PLACE IN PROPERTY TAX COLLECTION AT THE MOMENT, I THINK AS A STATE. SO IF YOU, IF YOU'VE READ THE PAPER, OF COURSE, UM, YOU KNOW THAT THERE IS A REAL, UM, EMPHASIS AND A FOCUS IN COLUMBUS ON PROPERTY TAX COLLECTION AND THE PROVISIONS OF THE OHIO REVISED CODE THAT GOVERN THAT COLLECTION. AND SO THERE'S A LOT OF ATTENTION PAID TO THAT RIGHT NOW. AND SO YOU HAVE A LOT OF LEGISLATION, UH, IN COLUMBUS, BOTH LAST SESSION AND COMING UP THIS SESSION, UM, THAT MAY VERY WELL DRASTICALLY AFFECT THE WAY PROPERTY TAXES ARE COLLECTED. THERE WAS A SPECIAL COMMISSION IN COLUMBUS, UH, SET UP BETWEEN THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE TO STUDY THE ISSUE. SO, UH, IF PROPERTY TAXES HAPPEN TO BE ONE OF YOUR PAST TIMES, UH, NOW IS A REALLY INTERESTING TIME TO, UH, TO LEARN ABOUT IT. BUT, UM, SO IT'S, IT'S REALLY INTERESTING KIND OF A, A PROCESS TO BE AWARE OF. AND VERY INTERESTINGLY, I THINK IS, UH, THE, THE ISSUE OF, OF PROPERTY TAX REFORM OR THE POSSIBILITY THEREOF, IS BEING TALKED ABOUT IN ALL TYPES OF COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE STATE, RURAL, URBAN, SUBURBAN, UM, REPUBLICAN, DEMOCRAT, EVERYBODY'S TAKING A LOOK AT IT. SO IT'S SOMETHING TO BE AWARE OF. UM, IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY, IT'S A VERY INTERESTING TIME. LAST YEAR, UH, FOR THE FIRST TIME IN, UH, ON RECORD ACTUALLY, UH, OVER $1 BILLION IN, IN REAL ESTATE, UH, TAXES IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY WERE COLLECTED. UM, IT WAS ALSO A REALLY GOOD TIME IN TERMS OF, UH, THE COLLECTION OF DELINQUENT TAXES. SO WE COLLECTED ABOUT 33 MILLION [00:15:01] IN DELINQUENCIES IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY. UM, SO THAT'S, UM, THAT IS A, A VERY LARGE SHARE OF REVENUE. AND SO IT'S, IT'S, IT'S A TIME OF, UH, GREAT ACTIVITY IN TERMS OF PROPERTY TAX COLLECTION. BUT WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS I BROUGHT YOU AND SOME OF THE THINGS TO TELL YOU ABOUT BRIEFLY? SO, UM, I GET A LOT OF PHONE CALLS, INCLUDING FROM MY OWN MOTHER THIS WEEK, ASKING TO BE PUT ON THE PLAN. SHE GOT HER PROPERTY TAX BILL, AND SHE CALLED AND SAID, I WANT YOU TO PUT ME ON THAT MONTH TO MONTH PLAN THAT YOUR OFFICE DOES. SO I SAID, NO PROBLEM, MOTHER, WE'LL SIGN YOU UP. SO ONE OF THE THINGS THAT, UH, YOU MAY HAVE SEEN BEFORE, UM, IS OUR, AND PLEASE, UH, TELL YOUR RESIDENTS ABOUT THIS IS OUR PROPERTY TAX PREPAYMENT PLAN. NOW, THIS IS A GREAT PLAN. UM, AND ACTUALLY MONTGOMERY COUNTY IS A REAL LEADER IN, IN PREPAYMENT AND A LOT OF OTHER COUNTIES, YOU KNOW, HAVE, HAVE VISITED OUR OFFICE TO KINDA LEARN HOW WE DO, WHAT, WHAT WE DO, AND HOW WE APPLY IT. AND THIS PROGRAM HAS, UH, EXPONENTIALLY INCREASED. IN FACT, LAST WEEK WE SIGNED UP, I THINK 114 NEW FAMILIES AND HOW IT WORKS ESSENTIALLY IN A NUTSHELL, AND IT'S FREE, UH, FOR, UH, PROPERTY OWNERS OBVIOUSLY, WHO ARE PAYING PROPERTY TAXES IS, AS YOU'LL SEE ON THE BACK, IT ALLOWS PROPERTY OWNERS TO SPLIT THEIR, UH, PROPERTY TAX PAYMENT INTO MONTHLY PAYMENTS, WHICH IS REALLY NICE. UM, AND THAT CAN EVEN BE DONE AUTOMATICALLY, OBVIOUSLY, WITH THE PROPERTY OWNER'S CONSENT, IF THAT'S THE OPTION THEY SIGN UP FOR, TO HAVE THAT, UH, MONEY AUTOMATICALLY WITHDRAWN FROM THEIR FINANCIAL INSTITUTION. UM, OR THEY CAN PAY, UH, WITH PAPER COUPONS AND CHECKS. BUT IT'S REALLY NICE BECAUSE IT HELPS FAMILIES STAY ON TRACK. IT HELPS YOU BUDGET, UH, EASIER. AND, UH, OBVIOUSLY FOR A LOT OF FAMILIES AND A LOT OF FOLKS THAT, THAT WE ALL SERVE, THE ONE'S PROPERTY TAX BILL CAN BE ONE OF THE LARGEST BILLS THEY GET EVERY YEAR BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY THEIR HOME IS THEIR LARGEST FINANCIAL INVESTMENT FOR MOST, FOR MOST PEOPLE, FOR MOST AMERICANS. AND SO BEING ABLE TO BREAK THAT DOWN, UM, INTO MONTHLY PAYMENTS IS REALLY HELPFUL FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE, UH, AND IT REALLY HELPS THEM STAY ON TRACK. SO, UM, ONE THING TO, TO TELL YOUR RESIDENTS ABOUT IS, UH, IS THIS PREPAYMENT PLAN AGAIN, IT'S, IT'S REALLY GROWN IN POPULARITY. UM, IT'S GREAT AND IT, IT, AGAIN, IT REALLY HELPS KIND OF PEOPLE STAY ON TRACK AND, AND HELPS KEEP THAT TOP OF MIND.
