AMONG THE 60, 64 MILLION AMERICANS LIVING WITH A DISABILITY, ONLY A SMALL FRACTION 16,000 BENEFIT FROM THE ASSISTANCE OF TASK TRAINED SERVICE DOGS. SO THAT'S LESS THAN 1% OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES THAT COULD QUALIFY TO HAVE A SERVICE DOG, UM, THAT, THAT DON'T OR THAT DO HAVE IT. SO, UM, NATIONAL SERVICE TALK MONTH CELEBRATED EVERY SEPTEMBER SHINES A LIGHT ON THE INVALUABLE IMPACT SERVICE TALKS HAVE ON THE LIVES OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES. WE BELIEVE IT'S IMPORTANT THAT OUR COMMUNITY UNDERSTANDS THE BENEFITS OF TASK TRAINED SERVICE DOGS, AND THIS PROCLAMATION WILL HELP RAISE AWARENESS OF THE RIGHTS OF SERVICE DOG USERS, INCLUDING CANINE COMPANIONS CLIENTS. WE MANAGE EIGHT OF THE BIKEWAYS THAT ARE PART OF OUR REGION'S, UH, LARGEST TRAIL NETWORK IN THE NATION OVER 350 MILES. AND THEN THE, OUR THIRD PILLAR, CONSERVATION EDUCATION AND THEN RECREATION OFFERS THIS COMMUNITY, UH, A VARIETY OF WAYS TO GET OUTSIDE TO, UH, HOLD AN ACTIVE LIFESTYLE AND TO RECREATE WITH THEIR FAMILIES AND FRIENDS IN NATURE. AND WE OFFER THAT IN MANY, MANY WAYS. WE'RE AT THE TOP OF THE LIST OF THE DAYTON BUSINESS JOURNAL TOP ATTRACTIONS IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY. UH, WE OFFER OVER 200 OR ALMOST 200 MILES OF TRAILS OF DIFFERENT KINDS. AGAIN, HIKING, CYCLING, PADDLING. AND UM, ALSO WE ARE ACCESSIBLE BECAUSE 94% OF, OF THIS COUNTY, AND I EXPECT 100% OF HUBER HEIGHTS, UM, IS WITHIN 10 MINUTES OF A METRO PARK. SO, AS I SAID, UM, WE HAVE A LEVEE ON THE BALLOT THIS FALL. IT'S A ONE, IT'S A ONE MILL LEVEE. UM, WHAT WILL, WHAT WILL THIS LEVEE SUPPORT? WE HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING AS, AND I'M I'M SURE YOU'RE FAMILIAR WITH THIS. UM, WE HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING FOR ABOUT 12 YEARS NOW WITH THE, UM, FINANCIAL SITUATION, FINANCIAL CLIMATE IN OUR, UH, THAT WE EXPERIENCE AS A PARK DISTRICT. WE HAVE WORKED THROUGH THAT TIME TO, UH, TO MAKE CUTS THAT DO NOT GREATLY IMPACT THE SERVICE WE PROVIDE TO THE COMMUNITY. AND WE HAVE REACHED A POINT WHERE WE RECOGNIZE THAT WE SIMPLY CAN'T DO THAT ANYMORE AND MAINTAIN THE LEVEL OF SERVICE THAT WE PROVIDE THE COMMUNITY. AND SO, UM, THIS LEVY WILL SUPPORT, UH, THAT CONTINUED ACCESS TO OUR FACILITIES. UM, IT WILL ALLOW US TO CONTINUE TO PROTECT OUR NATURAL ASSETS, KEEP OUR WATERWAYS CLEAN, PROVIDE THOSE DIFFERENT HABITATS IN THE COMMUNITY, AND CONTINUE TO OFFER THOSE WILDLIFE CORRIDORS, UM, UP AND DOWN. OUR RIVERWAYS, CONTINUE TO PROVIDE THE EDUCATION AND RECREATION OPPORTUNITIES IN THE EVENTS THAT I SPOKE OF EARLIER AND, AND ALLOW US TO HANG ON TO OUR KNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF THAT DELIVERS ALL THE THESE SERVICES, UM, TO THE COMMUNITY. IF THE LEVY DOESN'T PASS, UM, WE HAVE A $58 MILLION BACKLOG IN REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT. AND, UM, WHILE WE HAVE BEEN ABLE SO FAR TO KEEP, UM, FEW AMENITIES FROM FAILING IN A WAY THAT THE COMMUNITY REALLY FEELS THAT IMPACT, WE WOULD NO LONGER BE ABLE TO DO THAT. THE COMMUNITY WOULD START TO VERY MUCH FEEL THE LOSS OF FACILITIES AND AMENITIES THAT WE'RE ABLE TO PROVIDE. UM, WE, WE PRIDE OURSELVES ON OFFERING CLEAN AND SAFE PARKS, AND THAT WOULD BE COMPROMISED. AND THEN THE YWCA HAS CHANGED THEIR ENTIRE, UM, MODEL. SO YEAH. SO THE YWCA VACATED THAT PROPERTY, BUT THE, BUT MONTGOMERY COUNTY STILL OWNS IT, SIR. YES SIR. IT'S NOT OWNED BY THE CITY.
