[00:00:05]

AYE.

THOSE OPPOSED HAVE THE SAME RIGHT.

MOTION CARRIED.

NEXT ON THE AGENDA IS THE APPROVAL OF THE NOVEMBER 18 EDUCATION COMMITTEE MINUTES.

WELL NECESSARY CORRECTIONS.

IT HAS BEEN PROPERLY MOVED BY MR. AKINS AND SECONDED BY MRS. HONAKER THAT WE ADOPT EXCEPT THE NOVEMBER 18TH, 2020 EDUCATION COMMITTEE.

MINUTES THERE ANY QUESTIONS ON THE MOTION WITH THERE BEING DONE? I'M SORRY.

MIA.

YOU HAVE A QUESTION? NO, NO, I WAS YAWNING.

SORRY.

THAT'S OKAY.

THAT'S OKAY.

THAT'S OKAY.

ALL THOSE IN FAVOR.

AYE.

AYE.

AYE.

HAVE IT.

THANK YOU.

NEXT ON THE AGENDA IS OLD BUSINESS AND THERE'S THREE ITEMS THAT WE WILL GO OVER FOR THIS EVENING ARE ITEM FIVE PERTAINS TO THE STATUS ON THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE BUDGET.

AND BASICALLY AS YOU BRIEFLY REVISIT THIS AGAIN, BASED ON THE LAST MISSION MEETING THAT WE'VE HAD ON DECEMBER 3RD OF LAST YEAR, WHERE IT WAS BROUGHT TO THE BOARD'S ATTENTION, THAT THERE IS $1,000 ALLOCATED FOR USE AS A WHOLE.

I KNOW THAT WE HAD FORECASTED INITIALLY $8,000 AND $8,000 INCLUDED 3000 FOR TRAINING FOR VARIOUS SPEAKERS TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR QUARTERLY, UM, FORUMS. AND THE OTHER AMOUNT WAS FOR $5,000 TO TRAIN THE HEBREW HEIGHTS, CITY EMPLOYEES AND COMMISSION MEMBERS ON CULTURE AND DIVERSITY EDUCATION.

SO BASED ON THE CIRCUMSTANCE OF THE CURRENT BUDGET AS A WHOLE FOR THE COMMISSION, UM, HOW DO WE PROPOSE? WE WANT TO SCALE

[00:05:01]

THE 8,000 THAT WE HAVE PROJECT.

I KNOW, UM, I KNOW THE BIG NAME, PEOPLE THAT I HAD MENTIONED WILL NOT DO IT FOR LESS THAN A THOUSAND.

SO I THINK THAT WOULD TAKE OUT LIKE KAREN TOWNSEND AND THE BIGGER GROUPS THAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT.

UM, SO I, I SUGGEST WE MAY DO IS, UM, THERE ARE COMMUNITY MEMBERS THAT WORK WITH THE COMMUNITY AND THE GROUP SUCH AS, UM, I CAN'T REMEMBER HIS NAME CAM.

I THINK THAT'S, HIS NAME IS THE ONE, UM, THAT YOLANDA WE BROUGHT UP, UH, BRETT, BRIAN, I THINK THAT'S HIS NAME FROM OUR MEETING WITH THE MIAMI VALLEY, REGIONAL AUTHORITY, UH, HUMAN RELATIONS COUNCIL THAT THEIR DIVERSITY PERSON, BECAUSE WE ARE A PAID MEMBER OF THAT ORGANIZATION.

THE CITY IS SO MAYBE WE CAN USE HIM TO DO A AT TRAINING OR A TALK BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT HIS POSITION WOULD BE, YOU KNOW, AND EITHER HE CHARGES US IF HE CHARGES US A LOT LESS OR FREE, BECAUSE WE ARE MEMBERS OF THAT PARTICULAR.

OKAY.

SO CAN YOU TELL ME AGAIN, I'M SORRY, THE NAME AGAIN? I DON'T REMEMBER HIS NAME.

HE'S THE, THE NEWLY HIRED DIVERSITY COUNCIL GUY.

DIVERSITY GUY.

WHAT IS THE MIAMI VALLEY? REGIONAL PLANNING.

COMMISSION PLANNING.

YEAH.

OKAY.

HE'S THERE, HE'S THERE DIVERSITY GUY.

SO WE CAN, UM, LIKE I SAID, SINCE WE ARE MEMBERS OF THAT COMMISSION, UM, MAYBE THE CITY IS, AND NANCY BERGE SITS ON THAT BOARD, THAT COMMISSION, MAYBE WE CAN REACH OUT TO HER OR TO HIM DIRECTLY AND SEE IF HE'S WILLING TO DO A TRAINING, A COMMUNITY TRAINING OR TALK.

AND I WOULD THINK HE WOULD PROBABLY DO IT AS PART OF THE MIAMI VALLEY, REGIONAL COMMISSION AND US BEING A, A MEMBER OF THAT FOR FREE OR AT A VERY MINIMAL COST.

OKAY.

THAT WAS, THAT WAS, UH, THAT WAS A PERSON I WAS THINKING THAT WE COULD, UM, WE COULD ELICIT HELP FROM, CAUSE HE'S HELPING, I GUESS HE'S GOING TO HELP US WITH OUR SURVEY TOO.

SO IT'S LIKE, FROM MY UNDERSTANDING FROM OUR LAST MONTH'S MEETING WITH THE, THE REST OF THE GROUP.

YEAH.

THAT'S NOT A BAD IDEA.

CAUSE I KNOW THAT IN, UM, THE MEMORANDUM THAT WAS ISSUED BY THE COMMISSION, IT HAD TALKED ABOUT RACISM BEING A PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUE.

AND THAT WOULD BE A GOOD TOPIC, YOU KNOW, IF HE, YOU KNOW, HAS, UM, RESOURCES AVAILABLE TO DISCUSS IN DETAIL, THAT COULD BE GOOD.

RIGHT.

AND WE CAN ALSO REACH OUT TO THE, UM, THE CITY OF DAYTON, SOME HUMAN RELATIONS COUNCIL, ERICA, I THINK ERICA FIELDS.

IS THAT HER LAST NAME WHO DIRECTS THAT ERICA? UM, YEAH, I DON'T KNOW EITHER.

I DON'T REMEMBER HER LAST NAME.

I THINK IT'S FIELDS, IT'S SORT OF HER IS HER FULL NAME, BUT UM, THEY ALSO, THE DATE AND HRC ALSO DOES DIFFERENT TALKS AND DIFFERENT COMMUNITY TRAININGS.

I KNOW WE'RE NOT DATING, BUT WE ARE ONE OF THE LARGEST STATE AND SUBURBS.

SO, YOU KNOW, AND UM, IT COULD BE ANOTHER GROUP, ANOTHER ORGANIZATION THAT WE COULD REACH OUT TO, TO DO SOME TRAINING.

THAT'S EITHER FREE BECAUSE IT'S PART OF THEIR WORK OR, UM, OR LIKE I SAID, VERY MINIMAL COST CARE.

WELL I LOVE KAREN TOWNSEND AND I, AND I LOVE HER MESSAGE.

AND, AND I LIKE, UM, SOME OF THE OTHER GROUPS THAT I'VE LOOKED AT, THE SPEAKERS, THEY ARE MORE OF THE WELL-KNOWN SPEAKERS AND THAT'S THEIR MAIN CAREERS SPEAKING IS DOING THESE TRAININGS.

SO THEY CHARGE QUITE A BIT, WHICH IS FAIRLY THEY CHARGE.

BUT WITH A LIMITED BUDGET THAT WE HAVE, WE HAVE TO LOOK AT SOMETHING ELSE, OH, YOU KNOW, BE MORE RESOURCEFUL THAN TO LOOK AT OTHER TRAINERS THAT WE COULD USE.

RIGHT QUESTION.

DO WE KNOW EXACTLY HOW MUCH KAREN WOULD CHARGE? BECAUSE IF WE THINK IT'S THAT OUR MESSAGE IS GOING TO BE BENEFICIAL TO THE COMMUNITY, WHY DON'T WE JUST PUT TOGETHER AN EVENT, A BUDGET OR A BUDGET FOR AN EVENT, AND THEN SUBMIT THAT THROUGH THE COMMISSION AND SEE IF WE CAN GET IT FUNDED.

UM, IN THAT CONVERSATION, IT WAS MENTIONED THAT THERE IS MONEY FOR THINGS IT'S JUST ALLOCATED IN DIFFERENT, DIFFERENT WAYS.

AND THEY HAVE DIFFERENT LINE ITEMS THAT THEY COULD USE FOR DIFFERENT PARTS IS LET ME, UM, I CAN, IN THE MORNING, I'LL REACH OUT TO KAREN AND ASK HER TO GIVE US, UM, TO START THAT CONVERSATION WITH HER AND SHE CAN GIVE US AN ESTIMATE.

OKAY.

SO THAT WAY

[00:10:01]

WE KNOW IT, I MEAN, WE'RE NOT COMPLETELY RULING HER OUT, SO THAT WAY WE AT LEAST GET THAT BECAUSE WE WANT TO DO SPEAKERS FOUR TIMES A YEAR.

SO I MEAN, AND I THINK IT WOULD BE IDEAL FOR US TO DO SOMETHING ON BEHALF OF THIS COMMITTEE OR THE COMMITTEE, UM, IN FEBRUARY, FEBRUARY, UM, IN PASSABLE FOR A BLACK HISTORY MONTH.

BUT IF NOT, DEFINITELY BY MARCH AND I BELIEVE THIS TOPIC VEHICLE BASED ON THE CURRENT PURPOSE AND MISSION, NOT ONLY FOR THIS COMMITTEE BEFORE THE COMMISSION, AS A WHOLE, WHICH Y'ALL AGREE WITH ME ON THAT.

I AGREE.

THERE'S A, UH, UH, I CAN'T REMEMBER.

I KNOW I I'VE GOTTEN, SO I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON.

MAYBE TRYING TO VOLUME DOWN A LITTLE, SEE IF THAT HELPS.

IS THAT BETTER? IT'S STILL AN ECHO, BUT TALK SLOW.

YEAH.

FOR THE LIFE OF ME, I CAN'T REMEMBER HIS NAME, BUT HE'S A PASTOR OF ONE OF THE LARGEST, UM, BLACK COMMUNITY CHURCHES IN DAYTON.

HE DOES.

HE'S A WONDERFUL SPEAKER.

I'VE LISTENED TO.

I WENT TO TALKS THAT HE DID AT THE MLK LAST YEAR.

AND WHEN WE DID THE, UM, WHEN THE PROTESTING STARTED AND THEN, UM, WE DID, UM, HE DID DID ONE.

I DID QUITE A FEW TALKS AND I JUST, FOR THE LIFE OF ME, CAN'T REMEMBER HIS NAME.

I'LL HAVE TO LOOK UP HIS NAME AND THEN EMAIL IT TO, TO THE BOTH OF YOU MAYBE.

UM, I THINK HE WOULD BE A GREAT SPEAKER TO HAVE FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH.

HE'S VERY, UM, HE'S, HE'S JUST A VERY, UM, JUST A VERY INSPIRATIONAL SPEAKER.

SO, UM, I HAVE TO FIND OUT HIS NAME, I FOR LIFE ME, I CAN'T REMEMBER HIS NAME, BUT, UM, I'LL HAVE TO GO BACK AND LOOK THROUGH SOME OF MY, SOME OF MY EMAILS AND GET HIS NAME AND, AND, UM, MAYBE I CAN FIND SOME CLIPS OF TEST TALKS THAT HE'S DID.

LET ME ASK WHEN WE'RE DOING THIS TRAINING THAT WE'RE PLANNING ON BRINGING IN KAREN TOWNSEND FOR, IS THIS THE TARGET AUDIENCE, THE EMPLOYEES, OR IS IT THE COMMUNITY IN GENERAL? I BELIEVE THIS PAST.

YEAH, BECAUSE I THINK IF WE'RE GOING TO PAY FOR HER, I THINK WE OPENED IT UP TO THE COMMUNITY AS WELL AS LONG AND THE EMPLOYEES, BECAUSE I THINK THAT WILL BENEFIT SMALL BUSINESSES AS WELL, BECAUSE I THINK THAT WAS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT SAID, UM, THAT BRIAN SAID, IF WE LIKE PUT AN EMPHASIS AS SMALL BUSINESS, IT WOULD, UM, WE CAN GET MONEY FROM SOME OF THOSE OTHER AREAS THAT THEY HAVE ALLOTTED FOR, FOR TRAINING.

I THINK THIS WOULD FIT INTO THAT SMALL BUSINESS TRAINING SPACE.

SOME OF THE EMPLOYERS REALLY HAD, UH, SOME INTERPERSONAL SKILLS AS IT RELATES TO DIVERSITY AND CULTURE.

UM, AND IN HUBER HEIGHTS, NOT THAT WE NEED IT, NOT I'M JUST KIDDING, BUT, UM, IT WOULD, UH, IT WOULD ALSO BENEFIT COPES JUST IN GENERAL ON, ON HOW, HOW, HOW TO INTERACT IN PUBLIC SPACES.

I THINK IT, I THINK IT'S GREAT BECAUSE IT COULD BE IN RESPONSE TO THAT, THAT OUTRAGEOUS, UM, LETTER THAT THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SENT TO ALL THE BUSINESSES WHEN WE HAD THE PROTEST HERE AND THEN THEY ENDED UP BOARDING UP WINDOWS.

I MEAN, COME ON.

IT JUST WAS.

I MEAN, THAT WAS JUST NOT A WAY TO HANDLE THINGS.

SO I THINK, UM, THIS IS A GREAT TRAINING OPPORTUNITY FOR BUSINESSES AND HUBER BUSINESS OWNERS, EMPLOYEES, EMPLOYERS, YOU KNOW, TO, TO HAVE AS WELL.

AND THAT WAY SAID IF WE, IF WE ADVERTISE IT AS SUCH, WE CAN USE FUNDING FROM THOSE SOURCES.

SO, HMM.

I WOULD ALSO SUGGEST THAT WE KEEP THE DATE OPEN BECAUSE WE REALLY SUBJECT TO HER AVAILABILITY RIGHT NOW.

WE JUST DON'T KNOW WHEN SHE'S GOING TO BE AVAILABLE.

BE IT JANUARY, FEBRUARY, MARCH, WHATEVER, YOU KNOW, I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE SHE DOES, BUT, UM, RUNNING AND ESPECIALLY TRYING TO PREPARE FOR SOMETHING THIS LARGE, UM, MIGHT NEED A LITTLE TIME.

SO JANUARY MIGHT BE OFF THE TABLE, BUT, UM, I WOULDN'T, UM, PIGEONHOLE HER INTO, UH, A SPECIFIC DATE OR TIME OF THE MONTH, UH, LIKE BLACK HISTORY MONTH.

AND ACTUALLY JUST LOOKING AT IT FROM AN EXTERNAL PERSPECTIVE, IF WE ARE GOING TO ASK PEOPLE FROM DIFFERENT CULTURES TO COME TO THINGS THAT RELATE TO CULTURE AND DIVERSITY, UM, YEAH, FEBRUARY MIGHT BE THE BEST TIME TO DO IT, BUT YOU KNOW, IT, IT MIGHT BE A, UM, A TO HAVE FOR PEOPLE TO COME TO BECAUSE THEY MIGHT SAY, OH, IT'S JUST ANOTHER EVENT FOR AFRICAN-AMERICANS, IF THAT'S NOT THE CASE AND WE DON'T WANT IT, THEN WE MAY

[00:15:01]

NOT WANT TO HAVE HER THERE IN FEBRUARY, BUT GIVE HER A LITTLE EXTRA TIME TO PREPARE FOR MARCH.

OKAY.

SO WOULD YOU SAY THAT WE SHOULD HAVE HER BE A FIRST, UM, SPEAKER FOR OUR FIRST FORUM FOR THE QUARTER IN MARCH? OKAY.

WELL, ASK, ASK HER, WHEN CAN SHE FACILITATE, UM, UM, WORKSHOP IF YOU WOULD, OR WHATEVER THIS LARGE AND, AND AGAIN, IT'S GOING TO BE VIRTUAL, SO, UH, SHE'S JUST GONNA HAVE TO BE PREPARED TO DO THAT, SO, OKAY.

OKAY.

CAUSE I ALWAYS SAY, UM, MIA, SHE HAD HAVE INFORMATION TO CONTACT HER, DEFINITELY ASK HER WHAT HER AVAILABILITY IS, UM, AND WHAT WOULD BE YEAH, YEAH.

HER AVAILABILITY.

AND IF BY CHANCE, SHE IS NOT ABLE TO DO A, UM, SERIES FOR THE MONTH OF MARCH, THE PAST STORY THAT YOU WERE REFERRING TO, HE COULD POSSIBLY DO, UM, A TOPIC OF DISCUSSION, YOU KNOW, FOR THE QUARTER.

THAT WILL BE FINE.

WE JUST NEED TO KNOW WHAT TOPIC AND HIS AVAILABILITY TO, DOES HE HAVE A FEE? DO YOU KNOW? I DON'T, I DON'T KNOW.

I JUST, I'VE JUST ATTENDED THINGS THAT HE SPOKE TO.

I DON'T KNOW.

I DON'T KNOW HIM PERSONALLY, BUT I'LL REACH OUT.

I'LL TRY TO SEE WHAT I CAN FIND FROM HIM IN MY PAST EMAILS, FROM THE DIFFERENT EVENTS THAT I'VE ATTENDED.

DO YOU REMEMBER CHURCH? UM, CAUSE I'M THINKING IT IS.

I DON'T REMEMBER IT AND THAT'S WHY I, I GOOGLED SOME OF THE THING AND I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S THE MEGA OR MEGA CHURCH.

IT'S I KNOW IT'S ONE OF THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN CHURCHES.

UM, I KNOW THAT'S UM, SO, UM, I DON'T KNOW.

THERE'S I KNOW IT'S A YOUNGER, OLDER, OLDER.

OKAY.

SO THAT MIGHT BE A BAITED QUESTION, BUT, UM, I HEARD HE SPOKE ALSO AT, UM, WHEN THEY HAD THE SYNAGOGUE SHOOTING IN PHILADELPHIA.

THAT'S WHERE I FIRST HEARD HIM.

CAUSE I WENT TO THIS, UH, THAT, THE SYNAGOGUE FOR THEIR, UM, FOR THEIR VERB, UH, VIGIL.

AND HE WAS ONE OF THE LEADERS THAT THEY BROUGHT IN FROM ALL.

AND THEN I HEARD HE ALSO SPOKE AT, UM, WHEN WE HAD THE KKK HERE IN MAY, THEY DID A, UH, AN EVENT DOWNTOWN ON, ON COURTHOUSE SQUARE AND WAS ALSO ONE OF THE SPEAKERS THERE TOO.

SO I'LL HAVE TO GO LOOK AT, SEE, UM, BECAUSE WHAT THEY DID WAS THEY BROUGHT IN THE RELIGIOUS LEADERS FROM ALL THE DIFFERENT RELIGIONS AND DAYTON AT THESE, AT THESE EVENTS, BUT I'M PRETTY SURE HE SPOKE AT THE MLK BREAKFAST.

I HAVE TO LOOK IT UP AND OKAY.

UM, IF YOU DON'T MIND ON BEHALF OF THE COMMITTEE, MIA, IF YOU CAN REACH OUT TO HIM AS WELL AND SEE WHAT HIS AVAILABILITY IS, IF NOT, BUT I KNOW THAT, UM, LIKE WE COULD, YEAH, WE COULD SEE ABOUT HIM AND UM, YEAH, CAUSE I LIKED FOR US TO DO SOMETHING, YOU KNOW, BY MARCH AND PRESENT TO THE COMMISSION BY NYCLA OUR, UM, PLAN AS FAR AS, UM, YEAH.

OKAY.

I WILL, I WILL SEE WHAT I CAN FIND.

OKAY.

I APPRECIATE THAT.

SO GLENN, BACK TO THE BUDGET, I MEAN, AS OF NOW, BECAUSE YOU ALREADY GAVE MATT AND CHAIR OUR PROJECTED BANK YEAR OF EIGHT K.

SO DO YOU WANT TO MAINTAIN THAT EVEN THOUGH WE KNOW GONNA HAVE TO SCALE IT ANYWAY, REALIZE OR FIND OUT IF THERE'S ADDITIONAL FUNDS AVAILABLE FROM OTHER COMMISSIONS AND BOARDS? I THINK WHAT WE'VE GIVEN THEM AS WHAT WE THINK WE NEED, WHERE, WHERE IT COMES FROM IS NOT REALLY THE PROBLEM OF THE COMMITTEE.

UM, IF, IF THAT, IF THOSE RESOURCES ARE GOING TO COME FROM DIFFERENT BUDGET LINE ITEMS AND THAT SORT OF THING, I SAY, LEAVE IT IN OUR BUDGET BECAUSE WE ARE ANTICIPATING NEEDING THAT KIND OF MONEY.

WE DON'T WANT IT TO BE SAID THAT WE DIDN'T ASK FOR IT.

YEAH.

AND THAT'S TRUE BECAUSE WE DID NOT KNOW PRIOR TO THAT TIME, WHAT WE TRULY HAD.

SO YEAH.

I AGREE.

I AGREE.

HOW ABOUT YOU MIA DEAN, FOR THAT? WE SUBMIT, I ALWAYS TELL THEM THAT WHEN I DO MY BUDGETS AT WORK SUBMIT HIGH.

YEAH, YEAH, YEAH, YEAH, YEAH.

THAT'S TRUE.

THAT'S TRUE.

AS A FINANCE PERSON, MYSELF, THAT'S HOW WE KEEP THE EIGHT, THAT WHAT WE SUBMITTED.

AND

[00:20:01]

LIKE I SAID, THEY MAY NOT, THEY WON'T GRANT ALL THAT AND, UM, WHERE IT COMES FROM, THAT'S THEIR, THAT'S WHERE THEY'LL HAVE TO COME UP WITH, BUT WE SUBMITTED WHAT WE ASKED FOR.

SO WHAT WE FEEL THAT'S NEEDED.

SO IT'S JUST A SIMPLE REALLOCATION OF FUNDS.

THAT'S ALL.

YEAH.

RIGHT.

I'M SURE THEY DO HAVE THE FUNDS AVAILABLE, YOU KNOW, FROM OTHER COMMISSIONS THAT HAVE A RESERVE.

THAT'S WHAT I HAD GOTTEN FROM, UM, BRIAN, I CANNOT PRONOUNCE HIS LAST NAME, BUT THE ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER WAS ON THE LAST COMMISSION CALL.

HE DID MENTION THAT VARIOUS BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS FOR THE CITY MAY HAVE RESERVE FUNDS THAT THEY'RE NOT GOING TO UTILIZE THAT MAYBE AVAILABLE FOR US TO USE.

SO I'M SURE IT'S THERE.

AND THEY HAVE, THE CITY HAS A GENERAL FUND.

UM, I GO TO THE CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS AND LISTEN TO THIS.

THEY HAVE A GENERAL FUND THAT THEY CAN PULL, PULL FROM FOR NET FOR THINGS LIKE THE SURVEY THAT WE'RE DOING, BUT WE'RE GOING TO PROBABLY PULL MONEY FROM THAT TO COVER THAT.

SO, YOU KNOW, SO THEY HAVE THEIR THERE'S WAYS TO A LOT FUNDS FOR, FOR WHAT IT IS I WORKED.

I MEAN, FRED, YOU DO THE SAME THING TOO.

WE WORK FOR PUBLIC AREAS THAT THEY DO, THERE'S WAYS TO A LOT DIFFERENT FUNNELS.

SO.

OKAY.

WELL I'D DEFINITELY SAY, YOU KNOW, WE KEEP AK AND, YOU KNOW, KEEP ON, UM, ADVOCATING NOW THE NEED FOR IT, BASED ON WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO FOR THIS COMMITTEE ON BEHALF OF THE COMMISSION.

ALL RIGHT, NEXT ITEM E CULTURE AND DIVERSITY TRAINING.

AND FROM THE LAST TIME WE TALKED ABOUT THE SUBJECT AND AGAIN, WE JUST HIGHLIGHT THIS BRIEF REGION IS NOW YOU WANT TO FOCUS ON CULTURE AND DIVERSITY TRAINING FOR CITY EMPLOYEES, BUT ALSO RESIDENTS COMMUNITY.

UM, WE JUST NEED TO THINK ABOUT CONSULTANTS THAT WE MAY WANT TO CONSIDER, UM, LIVING IN A REASONABLE PRICE RANGE AND AVAILABILITY TO SEE IF THEY COULD PROVIDE THAT TRAINING.

AND ALSO WHEN WE WOULD LIKE TO DO IT IN 2021, WELL, WE DISCUSSED, UM, IN A PREVIOUS MEETING HAVING QUARTERLY, UM, TRAINING SESSIONS.

SO HE HAD ONE IN BETWEEN NOW AND THE END OF MARCH, THE NEXT ONE WOULD BE LIKE, UH, APRIL TO DO THE END OF JUNE.

UM, SO I MEAN, WE, WE HAVE THE SCHEDULE.

I MEAN, THAT'S THE EASY PART OF IT AND WE CAN TAKE A LOOK AT IT.

MAYBE IF, UH, IF WE DON'T GET KAREN TOWNSEND, UM, THIS QUARTER AND GET ONE OF THE PASTORS, THEN WE CAN SWAP THEM AND BRING ONE IN JUNE AND THEN LET'S FIND ON DIFFERENT TARGET, UM, SOMETHING INSIDE OF THAT CULTURE AND DIVERSITY OR, UH, UMBRELLA, IF YOU WOULD, UM, MAYBE SOMETHING RELATED TO HEALTH DISPARITIES OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT AND BRING SOMEBODY LIKE THAT IN FOR, UM, MARCH, I'M SORRY, NOT MARCH, AUGUST, AND THEN MAYBE HIT SOMETHING ECONOMICS RELATED.

AND AT THE END OF THE YEAR, WHEN EVERYBODY'S GETTING READY FOR CHRISTMAS AND SPENDING ON, AND THEN THERE ARE FACULTY AND COMMUNITY LEADERS THAT I'M CONNECTED WITH THAT I CAN, UM, THAT I CAN, WE CAN REACH OUT TO THAT I KNOW, UM, THAT I KNOW VERY WELL CAN DO US.

UM, I WON'T SAY FOR FREE, CAUSE I ALWAYS HATE TO DO THINGS FOR FREE BECAUSE THEY'D UP THEIR TIME, AT LEAST FOR A VERY MINIMAL MINIMAL FEE.

AND THEN WE ARE ALSO GETTING A NEW, UM, IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS, WE SHOULD KNOW WHO OUR NEW VICE PRESIDENT OF INCLUSIVE EXCELLENCE IS AT ON CAMPUS.

SO, UM, AND WE HAVE SOME NEW DIVERSITY PEOPLE ALSO STARTING THIS WEEK TOO.

SO THEY, THEIR OPTIONS OF, UM, OF SOME OF THE PROFESSIONALS THAT I WORK WITH TO MY COLLEAGUES THAT CAN DO SOME TRAINING.

AND I KNOW YOLANDA'S BUSINESS, UH, I KNOW YOLANDA BEING THE CHAIR OF THE COMMISSION, BUT THAT'S PART OF HER COMPANY AS WELL, TOO.

SO SHE WAS WILLING TO DO A TRAINING AS WELL.

SO I THINK, I THINK, YEAH, YEAH, WE'VE GOT, THERE'S A LOT OF RESOURCES HERE IN THE DAYTON AREA.

WE JUST NEED TO BE ABLE TO UTILIZE THEM.

SO I THINK THAT'S, UM, I THINK THE QUARTERLY THING IS I THINK WE'RE MOVING ON THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

SO WE GET THE FIRST ONE AND THEN SEE HOW THAT GOES AND THEN RIGHT.

YEAH.

CAUSE EVEN, YEAH, CAUSE EVEN GOING BACK TO YOLANDA, THAT WAS SOMETHING I HAD ASKED HER AS WELL, BASED ON HER BACKGROUND IN HR, IF SHE WOULDN'T MIND DOING A TYPE OF TRAINING, EVEN THOUGH SHE IS A MEMBER

[00:25:01]

AND CHAIR OF THIS COMMISSION.

SO, YOU KNOW, UM, DEFINITELY, YOU KNOW, IF SHE IS AVAILABLE AND WILLING TO DO IT, WE CAN CONSIDER HER TO DO THAT.

AND I WOULD SAY DEFINITELY BY NEXT MONTH, IF WE CAN HAVE A FINALIST IN PLACE AS FAR AS POTENTIAL SPEAKERS FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR, THAT WE CAN PLAN AHEAD AS FAR AS POTENTIAL BUDGET, UM, TIME AND ALL THAT STUFF.

SO THAT WILL BE AN ACTION ITEM FOR NEXT MONTH'S ME AND ME.

I KNOW YOU'RE GOING TO SEND THE COMMITTEE AN EMAIL WITH THE NAME OF THE PASTOR AND WHAT I FIND OUT FROM KAREN.

YEAH.

OKAY.

OKAY.

I'LL REACH OUT TO EVERYBODY TOMORROW, SO, OKAY, GREAT.

THANK YOU.

NEXT ITEM.

FIVE C IS THE ONLINE RESOURCE DATABASE AND BASICALLY HAS EVERYONE IS AWARE.

AND THIS WAS BROUGHT UP AT THE LAST COMMISSION MEETING IN DECEMBER WHERE THE CITY OF HUBER HEIGHTS, WE ARE GOING TO RECOMMEND TO THEM TO PROVIDE ON THE CITY COUNCIL, UM, WEBSITE ON THEIR USEFUL LINKS PAGE, UM, UH, SUB LAKE I'LL CALL IT THAT TO FOCUS ON THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE.

AND OF COURSE THE OTHER COMMITTEES FOR THE COMMISSION HAVE THEIR LINKS AS WELL.

SO TOMORROW EVENING AT THE MEETING, I WILL MAKE THAT RECOMMENDATION TO THE BOARD TO HAVE CITY COUNCILS IMPLEMENT THAT AND ALSO ASK OF A CERTAIN TIMELINE, UM, COSTS.

BECAUSE I THINK THAT YOU LONDA WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THAT AS WELL.

IF THERE'S AN INVITE TO THE CITY COUNCIL WEBSITE OF ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, I'M NOT SURE IF THEY HAVE A WEBMASTER.

UM, I'M ASSUMING I COULD BE WRONG, BUT I THINK HONESTLY THAT I WOULD ASK FOR PART, MAKE IT A PAGE OF THE CITY.

SO THE CITY OF HUBER HEIGHTS IS WEBSITE.

I DON'T THINK IT WOULD COST ANY MORE TO ADD, TO ADD AN ADDITIONAL PAGE AND THEY SHOULD HAVE A DIVERSITY PAGE ANYWAY.

I MEAN, LIKE IT SHOULD HAVE THE CITY DIVERSITY STATEMENT AND ALL THAT KIND OF STUFF ON IT RIGHT AWAY.

THAT'S WHAT MOST ORDINANCES AND BUSINESSES AND, YOU KNOW, DO, AND OUR CITY DOES NOT HAVE THAT.

SO ON THIS, ON THIS LINK ALSO, THEY SHOULD HAVE THE CITY'S DIVERSITY STATEMENT, THE CITY'S, UM, ANY RESOLUTIONS THAT WE PUT OUT ALONG WITH THE EDUCATIONAL LINKS AND EVERYTHING.

SO I DON'T, I, UM, HONESTLY I DON'T THINK THAT WILL COST ANY MORE THAN THEY ADD A RESOURCE PAGE, YOU KNOW, TO, TO AN ALREADY EXISTING PRINTER.

NOW I'M SAYING THAT AS, FROM MY OWN PAST EXPERIENCE OF WORKING WITH WEBSITES, I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE CITY USES, YOU KNOW, WHAT THEIR PLATFORM THEY USE OR WHAT COMPANY THEY USE, THE COMPANY THAT THEY USE MAY CHARGE IF THEY DON'T HAVE THEIR OWN IT PERSON.

RIGHT.

RIGHT.

AND I DON'T KNOW, YOU KNOW, EITHER, AND I DON'T KNOW IF THAT'S PROBABLY THEIR BUDGET, YOU KNOW, MYSELF, BUT YEAH, IT SHOULDN'T COST THAT MUCH.

UM, BUT IF, SO, I'M NOT SURE IF WE NEED TO INCORPORATE THAT IN OUR BUDGET, BUT, UM, NOPE.

I DON'T.

I HONESTLY I WOULD PUSH FOR NOT TO HAVE THAT INCLUDED IN OUR BUDGET.

ONLY FOR THE FACT THIS IS SOMETHING THAT THE CITY NEEDS TO DO ON IT AS PART OF BEING AN INCLUSIVE CITY THAT THEY WANT TO BE PUSHED, YOU KNOW, THAT THEY WANT TO BE IS YOU SHOULD HAVE YOUR DIVERSITY STATEMENT.

LIKE I SAID, IT WON'T BE JUST OUR LINKS FOR EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES.

THEY SHOULD PUT THEIR DIVERSITY STATEMENT AND ANY OTHER THINGS LIKE THAT THAT HAS THE ON IT.

AND THAT WOULD JUSTIFY IT BEING A CITY EXPENSE AND NOT OUR PERMISSION TO EXPENSE, PROBABLY MORE IMPORTANT THAN LEAF PICKUP.

I AGREE YOU ON THAT.

OKAY.

I WOULD MAKE THAT RECOMMENDATION ON BEHALF OF OUR COMMITTEE THAT CITY COUNCIL DEFINITELY INCLUDE A SADLY ON THE USEFUL LINK PAGE FOR THIS COMMISSION TO INCLUDE EDUCATION RESOURCES

[00:30:01]

FOR TRAINING TO CULTURE AND DIVERSITY.

AND AGAIN, THAT INFORMATION WOULD INCLUDE ARTICLES, WEBSITES, THINGS THAT WE THINK THAT ARE PERTINENT YOLANDA.

NO.

AND THE COMMISSION THOUGH, AND THEREFORE, KATIE KNOW, I SHOULD GO AHEAD AND POST THAT INFORMATION.

WE, UM, A LIST OF OUR MINORITY OWNED BUSINESSES.

KNOW WHAT I WAS THINKING ABOUT THAT TOO.

YEAH.

I AGREE.

PEOPLE CAN, UM, UTILIZE THOSE BUSINESSES AND, AND, AND IT HELPS ALSO SELL THE CITY AS, UM, AS A MINORITY OWNED BUSINESS FRIENDLY COMMUNITY.

SO YEAH, THAT'S A GUY.

ARE THERE ANY, UM, QUESTIONS ABOUT FIVE? SEE THE ADDITIONS.

OKAY.

NEXT WE HAVE NEW BUSINESS AND BASICALLY FOR SIX A WEEK KIND OF ALREADY ARE TALKING ABOUT THIS FAR AS TOPICS FOR OUR QUARTERLY FORUMS. SO AS OF NOW, WE'RE GOING TO FOCUS ON REACHING OUT TO KAREN THOMPSON.

YOU WILL HAVE HER AVAILABLE OR THIS QUARTER TO DO A DISCUSSION ON RACIAL SENSITIVITY, UM, PASTOR, UM, AND THE COMMUNITY TO ALSO DO A SESSION AS WELL.

AND THIS WILL ALL BE VIRTUAL, I BELIEVE.

YEAH.

I THINK THE FIRST STUDENTS WOULD PROBABLY BE VIRTUAL UNTIL JUNE.

UM, AFTER THAT, WE'LL SEE WHAT THIS LOOKS LIKE.

SO WHAT WOULD, WHAT WOULD THIS, UH, MINISTER, PREACHER PERSON PASTOR, UH, DISCUSS? UH, I DON'T, UM, I DON'T KNOW.

I CAN, I CAN, WHEN I FIND OUT WHO HE IS HIS NAME, I CAN LOOK AT SOME OF THE PAST TALKS THAT HE'S DONE.

OKAY.

SO HE MAY NOT BE A PERSON THAT WE WANT TO BRING IN.

IT MAY BE TOO RELIGIOUS OR MAYBE SOMETHING THAT WE JUST DON'T WANT TO BRING IN, BUT I'LL, I'LL INVESTIGATE AND TRY TO FIND OUT INFORMATION ON THAT.

AND ALSO I WILL, UM, I'LL ALSO GIVE YOU GUYS SOME OTHER NAMES OF OTHER PEOPLE THAT I KNOW IN THE COMMUNITY THAT I'VE LISTENED, THAT I'VE HEARD SPEAK AND AT DIFFERENT THINGS.

AND NOT JUST, UM, LIKE I SAID, NOT JUST ON, ON AFRICAN-AMERICAN ISSUES OR BLACK ISSUES.

WELL MAYBE I HAVE, I HAVE LATINO SPEAKERS IN THE COMMUNITY AND STUFF AS WELL.

SO I WILL, UM, I WILL LOOK UP SOME OF THOSE THINGS AND GIVE YOU GUYS SOME LINKS AND STUFF TOO, AS WELL AS WHAT I FIND, SO, OKAY.

OH, GO AHEAD.

GO AHEAD.

I WAS JUST THINKING POTENTIAL TOPICS.

SO WE LIST A FEW SO WE CAN START KICKING THOSE AROUND, UM, SEEING IF THERE'S SOME FOLKS IN THE AREA WHO MIGHT HAVE SOME EXPERTISE IN WHAT WE NEED.

YEAH.

I LIKE THAT.

YOU'RE SAYING THE SECOND SEMESTER, UH, THE SECOND QUARTER, I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A HEALTH SPEAKER ABOUT MINORITY HEALTH BECAUSE APRIL IS ACTUALLY MINORITY HEALTH MONTH.

SO THAT MAY BE SOMETHING I'M SORRY, GO AHEAD, JEAN.

UM, I WAS GOING TO SAY THAT I ASKED THE, WHEN WE DO THE NEEDS ASSESSMENT AND I'M NOT SURE HOW QUICKLY THIS IS GOING TO EXECUTE IT.

THAT WILL ALSO GIVE US AN IDEA AS TO WHAT THE COMMUNITY, IN TERMS OF DIFFERENT TOPICS ON CAUTION DIVERSITY, THEY MAY WANT TO HEAR BASED ON DIFFERENT.

I LIKE YOUR SUGGESTION.

YOU JUST MADE ME AS FAR AS MINORITY HEALTH MONTH.

THAT WOULD BE GOOD.

YEAH.

I'M SORRY.

I JUST THOUGHT ABOUT THAT.

AND THERE ARE, AND THERE WERE A COUPLE OF SPEAKERS THAT I, UM, THAT I POWERED THROUGHOUT THAT MONTH THAT WE'VE HOSTED.

CAUSE YOU KNOW, WE HA WE HOST DIFFERENT THINGS THROUGHOUT CAMPUS TOO.

IN THE LAST YEAR.

IT'S BEEN A WHILE SINCE WE'VE HAD ANY EVENTS, BUT I CAN LOOK UP AND SEE WHO WE'VE HAD DO MINORITY MINORITY HEALTH.

CAUSE I KNOW THE, THE DATE AND ASIAN AMERICAN COUNCIL HOLDS A MINORITY HEALTH FAIR EVERY APRIL.

SO, AND THEY, THEY HAVE SPEAKERS THAT THEY BRING OUT.

THAT WOULD BE A GOOD TOPIC.

NOW THAT I'M THINKING ABOUT THIS CONCERN, THE FACT THAT WE'RE STILL DEALING WITH A PANDEMIC, WE COULD POSSIBLY DO A TOPIC THAT FOCUSES ON HOW COVID-19 AFFECTS

[00:35:01]

VARIOUS MINORITY GROUPS IN THE COMMUNITY.

WHAT DO YOU Y'ALL THINK ABOUT THAT? I THINK THAT'S, UM, THAT WOULD BE GREAT.

CAUSE I KNOW THERE IS A DISPARITY IN THE CARE AND UM, WHAT'S UH, HOW HAS AFFECTED THE BLACK COMMUNITY IN THE LATIN X COMMUNITY, ESPECIALLY SO, AND I KNOW THE SPRINGFIELD, THE CLARK COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT WAS, UM, HAD SPOKE ABOUT IT FOR A LITTLE WHILE ABOUT THAT TOO.

CAUSE THEY'RE THE ONES THAT GOT HIT WITH THE DOLE BUSINESS, WITH, UM, WITH THE LARGE AMOUNT OF LATINO COMMUNITY IN THAT IN CLARK COUNTY THAT WAS POSITIVE PLUS A POSITIVE.

SO, UM, BUT YEAH, THAT'S, THAT IS AN ISSUE THAT'S GOING ACROSS THIS NATION, NOT JUST AROUND HERE, BUT ACROSS THE DISPARITY OF CARE FOR THE BLACK COMMUNITY AND THE LATINO COMMUNITY.

SO YEAH, I, HEY, YOU ALL ARE IN AGREEMENT.

THAT COULD BE A GOOD TOPIC FOR OUR SECOND.

YOU'RE BREAKING UP INTO MINORITY HEALTH MONTH.

ANYWAY.

COULD, COULD YOU SAY THAT AGAIN? UH, JEAN YOU'RE BREAKING UP.

NO PROBLEM.

NO PROBLEM.

YEAH.

I WAS SAYING THAT, UM, THAT WILL BE GOOD FOR OUR SECOND QUARTER, UM, FAR AS APRIL IS MINORITY.

SO I THINK THAT WILL BE GOOD.

READ THAT AS WELL.

YEAH.

I'LL LOOK UP SOME SPEAKER IDEAS TOO AS WELL WHEN I SEND YOU THE EMAIL.

OKAY.

OKAY.

WELL WE CAN, UM, CAUSE I DO WANT TO GIVE, YOU KNOW, AS PART OF, UM, OUR UPDATE DURING TOMORROW'S COMMISSIONER MEETING, I BELIEVE THAT IS ONE ITEM THAT'S ON THE AGENDA.

UM, WE CAN SAY WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A TOPIC ON FOLD 19 AFFECTING MINORITIES AND THE COMMUTE BE A TOPIC ON RACIAL SENSITIVITY POINT AS, UM, AND OUR GOAL IS TO DO RACIAL SENSITIVITY BY THE END OF THE FIRST QUARTER AND THEN THE COVID-19 IN 19 FOUR MEN IN THE SECOND REFERRAL IN APRIL.

UM, BUT SOME TIME DURING THAT QUARTER TO GET TO THE END OF JUNE FOR THAT ONE.

SO IN ADDITION TO THAT, WHAT OTHER TOPICS WOULD WE CONSIDER EXPLORING? OR I DIDN'T EVEN MENTION PROBABLY MENTAL HEALTH, UM, STARTING, STARTING BUSINESSES IN HEBREW HEIGHTS, UH, THAT DOESN'T SOLELY FIT UNDER, UM, CULTURAL ISSUES.

IT DOES HELP ECONOMICALLY SO WE CAN, UM, TARGET SMALL BUSINESSES, WHICH I WOULD SAY ARE, UM, UH, PROBABLY ONE OF THE DRIVERS OF OUR ECONOMY, THE BIGGEST DRIVERS ECONOMY IN THE UNITED STATES, A SMALL BUSINESS AND SMALL BUSINESS CREATION.

UM, WE COULD EASILY GET SOMEBODY FOR THAT.

MAYBE NOT EASY TO BREAK OUT SOME OF THE BENEFITS IN THE CITY, UH, THAT THE CITY WOULD OFFER TO SMALL BUSINESSES WHO ARE STARTING OUT, UH, DO THEY DO TAX ABATEMENTS? I'M NOT SURE.

UM, WE CAN TALK ABOUT, BRING SOMEBODY IN TO TALK ABOUT LLCS AND THAT SORT OF THING.

AND SOME OF THE PITFALLS THAT THEY CAN AVOID IN CREATING SMALL BUSINESSES IN THE, UH, IN, IN THE CITY.

I LIKE THAT ONE BECAUSE YOU KNOW WHAT THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE PANDEMIC, A LOT OF SMALL BUSINESSES, ESPECIALLY THEY WERE AFFECTED IN 2020, AND THEY'RE GOING TO TRY TO RECOVER IN THE NEW YEAR.

SO YEAH.

THAT'S EXCELLENT ONE.

YEAH, I THINK WE SHOULD DO THAT TO FOCUS ON ECONOMICS, FOCUSING ON HEALTH, MENTAL, UM, RACIAL SENSITIVITY E UH, MENTAL PIECE.

DO YOU THINK HE DIES MORE LIKE MENTAL HEALTH? WHEN I SAY MENTAL, OH, RACE, UM, MENTAL HEALTH.

AM I BREAKING UP AGAIN?

[00:40:14]

YEAH.

YOU KEEP FREEZING.

I DON'T KNOW.

LET ME TURN.

MAYBE IT'S MY, YEAH, NO, I HAD TO, I JUST PULLED UP MY COMPUTER BECAUSE MY PHONE WAS DOING THE SAME THING, SO, SO I TURNED OFF ONE OF MY DEVICES.

OKAY.

I THINK IT'S ME AT WORK.

UM, I, CAN YOU GUYS STILL HEAR ME? YEAH.

OKAY.

UM, YEAH, BASICALLY SAYING THAT RACISM, UM, IF YOU ALL AGREE WITH ME ON THIS RACISM IS A MENTALLY ISSUE.

SO, UM, AND SEE, AND THAT'S WHERE THAT, UM, THAT NEW, UM, THAT NEW SPEED, THE NEW DIVERSITY DIVERSITY PERSON AT THE, UM, MIAMI VALLEY REGIONAL COMMISSION CAN SPEAK ABOUT IT BEING A, UM, A HEALTH PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUE DECLARED IT.

YEAH.

THAT'D BE EXCELLENT TOPIC AFTER TODAY.

GOSH, I JUST PRAY.

I'LL JUST LEAVE IT AT THAT.

UM, YEAH, DEFINITELY.

UM, THE FIRST TOPIC, RACIAL SENSITIVITY I'LL COVID-19 IS THE THIRD ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH AMONG SMALL BUSINESSES SPREAD.

OKAY.

AND THE LAST ONE RACISM AS A PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUE.

SO I THINK THAT SOUNDS GOOD FOR THE YEAR.

FINE WITH THOSE TOPICS.

THE COMMITTEE NEXT ITEM IS SIX, UM, EQUAL GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OR MISSION PURPOSE STATEMENT.

UM, STILL CLEAN MADAM CHAIR.

AND SHE DID HAVE ADAM ON THE AGENDA, BUT WE ALREADY DISCUSSED THIS AS A COMMITTEE, AS FAR AS OUR GOAL, TRYING TO UNITE THE CITY OF HUBRIS IN TERMS OF HAVING DIFFERENT RESOURCES TO EDUCATE THE COMMUNITY ABOUT CULTURAL DIVERSITY.

UM, SO IT PRETTY MUCH ARE GOING TO MEET THAT, UM, GOAL.

RIGHT.

OKAY.

PRIOR TO THE NEXT MEETING, I THOUGHT, OKAY, THERE YOU GO.

HOPEFULLY NOTHING HAPPENS.

I FOUND THE NAME OF THE PASTOR WANTED TO KNOW, HENCE C COATS, H E N C E.

AND THEN LAST NAME IS COTE C O T S.

HE IS, HE SAID PASTOR FOR, UM, THE PLEASANT GREEN MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH FOR 25 YEARS.

AND HE MARCHED WITH MARTIN LUTHER KING IT'S SELMA AND EVERYTHING.

SO HE'S TALKED ABOUT HIS HISTORY AND STUFF WITH THAT.

SO, AND HIS HISTORY WITH, UM, CAUSE HE SAID HE, HE GRADUATED IN ALABAMA BECAUSE OF THE BOYCOTT.

HE COULDN'T RECEIVE HIS DIPLOMA AND ALL THAT.

SO HE TALKED ABOUT HIS EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE WITH HIM ABOUT HIS CIVIL RIGHTS

[00:45:01]

ACTIVITIES AND HIS, UH, MARCHING WITH MARTIN LUTHER KING.

I MEAN, I REALLY ENJOY HEARING HIM SPEAK.

SO I MEAN, OKAY.

PLEASANT GREEN THAT'S THAT'S IN TROTWOOD YEAH.

WE'RE GONNA HAVE HIM, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN? THAT WOULD BEEN SO IDEAL.

WELL, I MEAN THE CITY OF DANES, NOT HAVING ANYTHING, MAYBE, I MEAN, WE COULD TALK ABOUT THAT AT OUR NEXT, AT THE MEETING OF MAYBE ASKING HIM TO COME FOR THE UNITY WALK WELCOMING SINCE THE CITY OF DANE IS NOT DOING ANYTHING.

YEAH.

PLEASANT GREEN MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH OUT OF ROOM.

ONE OF THE BRAS PASS.

THAT'S WHAT HIS FUNERAL IS NEXT WEEK.

THANK YOU.

MA'AM OH, YOU'RE WELCOME.

I JUST COULDN'T REMEMBER HIS NAME FOR THE LIFE OF ME.

I'M LIKE, I KNOW I HEARD HIM SPEAK.

I'VE HEARD HIM SPEAK A COUPLE OF TIMES, SO IT'S LIKE I HEARD HIM SPEAK, BUT, UM, HE WAS, HE JUST WAS A VERY INSPIRATIONAL SPEAKER.

I MEAN, FOR SOMEBODY WHO DOESN'T ATTEND CHURCH REGULARLY, UM, HE MADE ME WANT TO GO.

I WANT TO KNOW WHAT CHURCH YOU GO TO VERY, I MEAN, I JUST ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO HIM.

SO HE WAS VERY, BUT LIKE I SAID, HE COULD BE A POSSIBILITY FOR THE, THE EVENT THAT WE'RE PLANNING FOR MLK.

I MEAN, BECAUSE I KNOW THE CITY'S NOT DOING ANYTHING THIS YEAR, SO, UM, HE MAY NOT HAVE ANY OTHER, OH, I KNOW THEY ARE DOING A, UM, A VIRTUAL ANNUAL MLK BREAKFAST.

SO I JUST, THIS IS, UH, WHO, WHO IS DOING, LET'S SEE.

OH NO, THIS IS NATIONWIDE.

I THINK THIS IS NOT DAYTON BECAUSE THEY'RE HAVING DR.

BERNICE KING AND ALL THAT DURING AND WIDE BREAKFAST, BUT THAT'S IN THE MORNING, 8:30 AM.

SO WE'RE NOT DOING OUR, OH, I'M SORRY.

I'M SORRY.

OH GOSH.

OKAY.

YEAH.

I'M GONNA HAVE TO ADJOURN THIS MEETING EARLY.

YOU DON'T WANT TO, I MEAN, WE GOT THAT COMMITTEE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES.

ARE WE MODIFYING THE OBJECTIVES OR GOALS? OKAY.

AND C WAS THE FINAL PROJECT.

YEAH.

WE MAINTAIN THOUSAND DOLLAR POTENTIAL EXPENSES FOR SPEED SUPPORT.

WE NEED.

THANK YOU, SIR.

ARE THERE ANY FINAL COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS BEFORE WE CALL THIS MEETING TO ADJOURN FOR THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE? 52.

YEAH.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

DO WE JUST STAY ON FOR THE EIGHT O'CLOCK ONE OR COME BACK TOPS NOW I'M ACTUALLY TAKING A, UM, I JUST WANT TO GIVE YOU A HEADS UP.

I'M TAKING MY CLASS FOR, UH, FOR WINTER, FOR SPRING SEMESTER SWITCHED FROM MONDAY NIGHT TO WEDNESDAY NIGHTS.

SO IT MAY AFFECT, UM, IT'S, IT'S A FLEXIBLE LEARNING, WHICH MEANS WE GO SOMEWHAT IN PERSON AND SOME ONLINE.

SO

[00:50:01]

ON NIGHTS THAT I HAVE TO BE IN PERSON, I MAY, IF IT HAPPENS TO FALL ON OUR FIRST WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH, I MAY END UP MISSING.

I HAVEN'T GOTTEN MY SYLLABUS.

SO AFTER EIGHT O'CLOCK MEETING, LET'S HAVE A CONVERSATION AND WE MIGHT EVEN BRING IT UP AT THE DISCUSSION OF A NEW MEETING TIME.

YEP.

THERE IT IS.

UM, IT'S ON THE AGENDA FOR THE NEXT MEETING OUTREACH COMMITTEE.

OKAY.

I JUST WANT TO CAUSE THEY, THEY ENDED UP SWITCHING THAT CLASS ON ME.

SO, SO, UM, SO I DO HAVE TO DO A WEDNESDAY NIGHT CLASS, SO, BUT IT'S A FUND RAISING AND GRANT WRITING CLASS.

SO I CAN USE SOME OF THAT.

MAYBE HELP US OUT WITH SIGN ME UP.

SO DIFFERENT ORGANIZATIONS.

AND I DON'T THINK NONE OF THEM WERE EVER THE SAME, BUT UM, TH THE ONES THAT ARE THE MOST FUN ARE THE, THE CAPACITY BUILDING GRANTS OR USDA GRANTS.

THOSE WERE ALWAYS THE MOST FUN TO DO.

I DID THE OHIO HUMANITIES COUNCIL GRANT.

THAT'S THE ONLY GRANT THAT I EVER APPLIED FOR.

AND THAT ONE WAS A, UM, WAS A DOOZY, TRIED TO GET TOGETHER TO DO THAT, BUT I I'VE HAD SMALLER GRANTS LIKE THROUGH, UM, RIGHT PAT AND STUFF LIKE THAT.

AND THAT WAS NOTHING COMPARED TO WHAT THAT MANATEE GRANT HAD, WHAT WE HAD TO DO FOR THAT ONE.

BUT PART OF MY, UM, DEGREE IS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I'M, I'M GOING FOR IS ON MY MASTER'S IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION.

SO OFFERING THIS, UH, GRANT WRITING CLASS THIS SEMESTER, AND I THOUGHT, YOU KNOW WHAT, LET ME GO AHEAD AND TAKE IT TO BE FOR, YOU KNOW, AND I COULD USE IT AND IT GOES FOR MY DEGREE.

SO, I MEAN, I'M INTERESTED IN SEEING HOW THIS DOES CLASS, BUT I JUST GOT THE EMAIL FROM THE TEACHER.

I HAVEN'T TEACHER.

CAUSE THEY SWITCHED EVERYTHING.

THE TA I GUESS THE FACULTY THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO TEACH IT HAD A FAMILY EMERGENCY AND HAD TO GET BACK TO, UM, HAD TO GO BACK TO SOUTH AFRICA.

SO, OH, WOW.

SO SHE'S NOT TEACHING THIS SEMESTER.

AND SO THEY PUT THIS NEW TEACHER AND WE SWITCHED, BUT IT'S, UM, IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE FLEXIBLE LEARNING.

SO WE MEET SOME TIMES IN PERSON AND THEN OTHER TIMES IT'S ONLINE.

SO HYBRID HYBRID OR FLEXIBLE OR OTHERS, WE GET ALL OF THOSE TERMS. AND NOW WE JUST SENT OUT AN EMAIL TO ALL THE STUDENTS TODAY, IF YOU'RE PLANNING ON BEING ON CAMPUS TO REQUEST THIS AT HOME TESTING.

SO THEY WANT YOU TO DO THIS AT HOME TESTING KIT BEFORE YOU COME ON CAMPUS.

SO YEAH, SELF ADMINISTER, YOU KNOW, WHEN I TOOK THAT TEST YESTERDAY, SHE ASKED IF I WANTED TO DO IT MYSELF OR IF I WANTED HER TO DO IT.

YEAH.

THEY ASKED ME THAT TOO.

I'M LIKE, YOU KNOW WHAT? JUST, JUST DO THE TEST.

I'M NOT GOING TO.

YEAH.

CAUSE SHE, HE, HE, YEAH, THE NURSE WAS LIKE, YOU'RE GOING TO LIKE, NOT LIKE ME FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS.

I'M LIKE, OKAY.

YEAH.

WELL THAT THIRD TEST.

SO IT WASN'T THAT BAD.

THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I EVER HAD TO BE TESTED.

BUT THEY, UM, THEY, WE, I JUST, WE WERE TALKING TO THE DOCTOR AND SHE, UM, AND SHE TOLD US THAT WE DON'T NEED TO BE TESTED TO RETURN, YOU KNOW? CAUSE WE WERE LIKE, SHOULD WE GET TESTED TO SEE IF WE'RE NEGATIVE? AND SHE SAID, NO, UM, BASICALLY IT'S ISOLATE YOURSELF 10 TO 14 DAYS AND YOUR SYMPTOMS IMPROVING.

CAUSE SHE SAID, WE CAN'T COUNT IT AS BEING, NOT SYMPTOM FREE BECAUSE THAT COULD TAKE MONTHS, YOU KNOW, BUT IT'S SYMPTOMS IMPROVING AND NO FEVER FOR AT LEAST 24 HOURS WITHOUT FEVER, REDUCING MEDS.

SO WHICH WE HAVEN'T HAD A FEVER.

AND WE, WE ACTUALLY, NONE OF US HAD HAD A FEVER.

SO DURING THIS WHOLE TIME, SO I MEAN, I TOOK, WE TOOK TEMPERATURES EVERY DAY AND NONE OF US HAD A FEVER.

WE HAD SYMPTOMS, BUT WE DIDN'T HAVE ANY, HEY, I'M SORRY.

CAN YOU GUYS HEAR ME BETTER NOW? YEP.

YES.

OH GOD.

I LOVE TECHNOLOGY AND I JUST CAN'T SEE WHAT WE CAN HEAR YOU.

OKAY.

I'M GONNA TURN MY CAMERA ON IN A MINUTE.

I JUST, JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE, OH, NO ONE COULD SEE ME ANSWERING DEVICES.

YEAH.

SO RHONDA SHOULD BE HERE ANY, OH MAN.

SO MAY, ARE YOU, ARE YOU WORKING FROM HOME WHILE YOU'RE RECOVERING TO WORK TODAY? SO, OKAY.

HOW, HOW, HOW WAS YOUR FIRST DAY? I WAS JUST TELLING FRED EARLIER.

I WAS LIKE, UM, AND KATIE EARLIER, I JUST TOOK FIVE MINUTES TO GO TO THE STORE.

CAUSE WE'RE WE JUST GOT CLEAR TODAY TO BE ABLE TO GO

[00:55:01]

OUT OF THE HOUSE.

AND I JUST WENT TO THE STORE TO GRAB A COUPLE OF THINGS AND IT WAS SO TIRING.

I NEVER FELT LIKE I IT'S JUST THIS, WHAT WE HAVE LEFT, WHAT I HAVE LEFT IS THIS FATIGUE.

IT'S JUST EXTREME FATIGUE.

I'VE NEVER FELT LIKE THIS TIRING BEFORE.

AND THEN, UM, THIS MIGRAINE LIKE HEADACHES THAT I GET THROUGHOUT THE DAY.

SO IT'S JUST, BUT THAT DOCTOR SAID THAT'S ACTUALLY PRETTY COMMON THAT MOST PEOPLE HAVE LINGERING AFTER THIS IS THE HEADACHES AND THE FATIGUE.

AND THAT COULD LAST MONTHS I'M LIKE, OH, ONE THING I'M GLAD THAT I DIDN'T GET WAS THE LOSS OF TASTE AND SMELL.

CAUSE I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE THAT SYMPTOM AND I DIDN'T HAVE THAT.

SO I WAS SO GLAD BECAUSE I'M A FRIEND OF MINE WHO HAD COVID WHO LOST, HE LOST HIS TASTE FOR ALMOST A MONTH.

AND HE SAID IT WAS AWFUL BECAUSE HE, LIKE HE SAID, YOU DIDN'T WANT TO EAT BECAUSE NOTHING TASTED GOOD.

YOU KNOW, IT'S LIKE, OH, YOU COULDN'T TASTE ANYTHING.

SO I WAS SO GLAD THAT I CAN GET THAT SYMPTOM.

SO, OH GOSH.

AND YOU KNOW, I HEARD THE EXACT SAME THING THROUGH, UM, A FRIEND OF MINE WHERE HE HAS A RELATIVE, I THINK ON HIS WIFE'S SIDE OF THE FAMILY WHERE THE SAME SITUATION HAPPENED WITH HER, SHE CAUGHT THE VIRUS AND SHE LOST HER TASTE.

ANY OF THE SENSE OF SMELL FOR OVER A MONTH? YEAH.

CAUSE THAT'S MY FRIEND WAS LIKE, I CAN'T, IT WAS JUST, IT WAS THE MOST IRRITATING THING EVER.

HE SAID HE, HE LOST SO MUCH WEIGHT CAUSE HE DIDN'T EAT.

HE SAID, I DIDN'T WANT TO EAT BECAUSE I COULDN'T JUST NOTHING TASTED GOOD OR IT WAS JUST AWFUL, YOU KNOW? AND WHEN YOU JUST CAN'T TASTE ANYTHING.

AND THEN I WAS READING ONLINE, A COUPLE OF CHEFS HAVE LOST THEIR TASTE OF SENSE OF SMELL.

AND IT HAS LIKE COMPLETELY AFFECTED THEIR COOKING BECAUSE THEY CAN'T TASTE OR SMELL THAT TO SEE IF THEY'VE GOT THE SEASONING RIGHT.

OR THE SALT RIGHT.

OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT.

SO, BUT IT'S VERY INTERESTING THAT THE WAY THIS VIRUS JUST HITS, I HAVE A, UM, UH, A CLASSMATE THAT I WENT TO SCHOOL WITH WHOSE HUSBAND IS 51 AND HE'S BEEN ON, UM, THIS IS DAY 28 OF THE ICU ON A VENTILATOR AND THEY DON'T KNOW IF HE'S GONNA MAKE IT.

I MEAN, THEY, THEY, UM, SHE SAID SHE GOT A CALL FROM THE HOSPITAL ABOUT THREE DAYS AGO JUST SAYING, JUST BE PREPARED BECAUSE HE'S NOT RECOVERING HIS, UM, THE, THE DOWNFALL OF THAT IS THEY DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH LUNG DAMAGE HE HAS BECAUSE THEY SAID HE'S, UM, THE VENTILATOR, WHICH IS HELPING HIM BREATHE IS ALSO CAUSING HIM TO RETAIN FLUIDS ON HIS LUNG AND LOTS OF SCARRING ON HIS LUNGS.

SO, BUT YOU KNOW, 51 YEARS OLD, YOU JUST, IT JUST, IT JUST, UM, IT JUST, WHAT THE, I MEAN, AND THEN THE YOUNGER FOLKS WHO ARE GETTING IT, THEY'RE SAYING THAT, UM, THE ATHLETES WHO GOT IT ARE NOW HAVING PERMANENT HEART DAMAGE AND THEY'RE IN THEIR TWENTIES, YOU KNOW, LATE TEENS AND EARLY TWENTIES.

SO IT JUST, OKAY.

BUT THIS THING IS JUST, IT'S JUST AWFUL.

SO I JUST, I JUST WANT IT TO GO AWAY.

HELLO RHONDA.

GOOD EVENING, RHONDA.

HOW ARE YOU? ALL RIGHT, SO EVERYBODY'S HERE.

LET'S NOT START IT.

HI.

UM, YOU HAVE THE AGENDA BEFORE YOU, IT IS EIGHT OH ONE.

LET'S CALL OUR MEETING ORDER A MEETING OF THE, UM, CULTURAL AND DIVERSITY CITIZENS ACTION COMMISSION.

THE OUTREACH COMMITTEE AT 8:01 PM, JANUARY SIX, 2021.

ALRIGHT, ROLL CALL.

LET'S SEE, WHO DO WE HAVE? FRED AKINS.

I AM PRESENT, UH, MIA HONAKER, RHONDA SUMMON, PRESENT TO ADOPT THE AGENDA.

WHAT IS YOUR PLEASURE, MR. CHAIR? I MOVE THAT.

WE ACCEPT THE MEETING AGENDA WITH ANUS, TERRY CORRECTIONS OR ADDITIONS A SECOND.

ANY QUESTIONS? COMMENTS, OR UNREADINESS ALL THOSE IN FAVOR.

LET IT BE KNOWN BY

[01:00:01]

SAYING, AYE.

THOSE ARE THE PROS HAVE THE SAME RATE IN THE EXTENSIONS, RIGHT? ADOPTION OF THE MINUTES AS BEEN APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY.

UM, LET'S SEE.

AND AS I LOOK AT, I'M SORRY, I SAID MINUTES.

I DID NOT MEAN TO SAY MINUTES.

I MEANT TO SAY, UM, AGENDA, DON'T SAY AGENDA JUST FOR THE RECORD.

IT'S THE AGENDA.

UM, DO WE, UH, APPROVE OUR MINUTES HERE? YOU DON'T THINK YOU HAVE TO EITHER WE'VE BEEN DOING IT.

I MEAN, BUT IT'S NOT, I DON'T THINK FOR THE SMALL SUBCOMMITTEES IT'S LEGIT LAST TIME FOR WHATEVER REASON, IT'S NOT INCLUDED ON THIS AGENDA AND I THOUGHT IT WAS THERE.

UM, SO LET ME DO THE APPROVED MINUTES FROM THE LAST MEETING.

I'M SORRY.

OKAY.

WE DID APPROVE THE MINUTES WERE FROM THE LAST MEETING IS NOT THE RECORD.

OKAY.

SO LET, LET ME DO THIS.

MAKE A MODIFICATION TO THE AGENDA TO APPROVE THE MINUTES, UM, AS, UM, ITEM THREE B.

SO IS THERE A MOTION TO ACCEPT THE MINUTES WITH NECESSARY CORRECTIONS EMOTION? OOH, QUESTION.

ANY QUESTION ON EMOTION, QUESTIONS OR UNREADINESS ON ADOPTING THE MINUTES MODIFICATIONS? AND LET ME SAY FROM THE NOVEMBER 18TH MEETING AND THESE WERE SENT OUT, UM, CUDDLED YESTERDAY, AS WELL AS THEY WERE SENT OUT BACK IN DECEMBER.

SO, UM, SINCE THERE IS NO UNREADINESS HERE, SO, YOU KNOW, ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, LET IT BE KNOWN BY SAYING, AYE, THOSE ARE THE PROS AS HEAVY IN THE MINUTES ARE ADOPTED AS IT IS.

ALL RIGHT.

UNDER OLD BUSINESS ITEM FOUR, WE HAVE THE STATUS OF THE MLK EVENT.

UM, I KNOW WE, UH, WE KICKED SOME THINGS AROUND IN OUR SUBSEQUENT CONVERSATIONS THAT HAD THROUGHOUT THE COURSE OF DECEMBER.

UM, AND, UH, WE ARE, WE'RE INTENDING TO DO A FOOD DRIVE AND I THINK THERE IS SOME RESISTANCE TO THAT, UM, OR, OR AT LEAST A MOVEMENT TO, UH, MOVE THAT TO ANOTHER TIME.

UM, THAT MIGHT GIVE US A LITTLE BIT MORE FLEXIBILITY IN HOW THAT THAT PROGRAM IS DELIVERED.

SO, UM, LET ME, LET ME ASK RHONDA, YOU HAD MENTIONED THAT WE WANTED TO DO A, PUT MORE FOCUS ON THE MLK MARCH, RIGHT? OKAY.

SO WHAT, WHAT DO YOU ALL ENVISION THAT BEING DIFFERENT THAN WHAT IT WAS LAST YEAR? UM, DEFINITELY SHORTER AND NOT SO WELL THE PROGRAM WASN'T THAT LONG, BUT I THINK GIVEN COVID AND EVERYTHING, WE CAN STILL HAVE SOME OF THE FORMALITIES THAT WE HAD.

YOU KNOW, WE HAD A SECONDARY PURPOSE, WE HAD A COUPLE OF SPEECHES.

WE HAD THE MAYOR, THE MAYOR GIVE PROCLAMATION, WE HAD THE STATE COUNTY, WE DID ALL OF THAT.

SO IF WE COULD HAVE A SMALLER, ALMOST MINI PROGRAM IN COMPARISON TO LAST YEAR, UM, AND THE FOCUS JUST BEING ON UNIFYING OUR COMMUNITY, UM, AND YOU KNOW, OBVIOUSLY HONORING DR.

MLK AND THEN HOPEFULLY NEXT YEAR WE CAN GET AN EARLIER START ON PLANNING.

WON'T BE AN ISSUE OR AS MUCH OF AN ISSUE.

AND WE CAN ROLL OUT THE FULL PROGRAM AGAIN.

AND WE WERE CALLING THIS THE UNITY MARCH, CORRECT? THE MLK UNITY MARCH, UM, MLK UNITY WALK.

YES.

WE HAD ALSO DISCUSSED MOVING THE VENUE, MOVING IT TO, UM, CITY CENTER.

I BELIEVE WE WERE CALLING IT.

UM, AND I'M TRYING TO THINK OF THE NAME OF THE PLAZA AND LET, LET ME FIND IT, SORRY.

AND WALKING TO HELP ME OUT, LADIES.

I CAN'T REMEMBER WALKING TO, I ALWAYS WANT TO CALL IT.

WAYNE IS WAYNE TOWN.

WAYNE'S TOWN.

OKAY.

YEAH.

SO MARION PLAZA IS THE ONE WHERE, UM, VACCINE VIDEOS.

YEAH.

YES,

[01:05:01]

BECAUSE THAT'S THE NEW, THAT'S THE NEW SHOPPING STRIP THE CITY JUST BOUGHT AND THAT'S WHERE THE LIBRARY IS GONNA GO.

SO WE ARE CONSIDERING STARTING THERE AND ENDING AT WHAT'S THE NAME OF THIS PLAZA?
